Beatriz Miranda
Beatriz (“Betty”) M. Miranda was born in Cuba and grew up in Miami. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences from the University of Florida. During her time at UF, she participated in a number of programs and organizations. She was dedicated to helping other first-generation low-income students adjust and succeed at UF. Pursuing this mission, Betty was involved with the MFOS program as a peer mentor, FOSAL facilitator, and undergraduate assistant, among others. Ultimately, she was inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame and received the 2012 Outstanding Graduating Female Leader Award.
Following her graduation from UF, she served as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer for the MFOSProgram creating and expanding outreach programs to first-generation college students. Later, Betty received her Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. During her time in law school, Betty was a member of the Florida Moot Court Team and was inducted into the Florida Blue Key.
Betty now works as an attorney at Gunster, representing clients in litigation matters and assisting clients in managing the employment relationship. Betty focuses her practice in business disputes, employment law, white-collar defense, and internal investigations. Betty lives in Tampa with her husband, Jose (an avid Miami sports fan), their twins, and Betty’s abuelita.
